20 Eastbourne Terrace,
Project Size: 6,000 sqft
Project Duration: 6 weeks
We worked on creating a Headquarters for World Sailing in Paddington at 20 Eastbourne Terrace. Subtle sailing references were a key theme of the design and this is demonstrated by our choice of materials. Upon entering the space you are welcomed into the reception. Here we used a sheet of sail laminate, which is a common material used on racing boats. We used this as a feature behind the reception desk where a brushed stainless steel logo sits proud on the fascia of the sail. A simple halo lighting system surrounds the back wall and highlights the signage, picking up details within the sail laminate. The natural wood vinyl on the floor replicates the finish you would see on a boat, with the contrasting grey carpet tiles and accents of blue in areas gives more of a movement resembling water. Sustainability was key throughout this project with examples such as our carpet tile consisting of 100% recycled plastic, we also used tactile backing which didn’t require any extra adhesive so doesn’t damage the floor grid and also makes it easier to recycle the floor tiles after use.
World Sailing has a brilliant design palette which we utilised within our fabric choices as well as manifestation graphics. The natural design palette allowed for some of the bold colours on the furniture items to really stand out, which is especially evidential within the reception. Within the teapoint, we decided to keep the palette neutral, making the most of natural material colouring such as introducing a moss feature wall. The positioning of the units was a major focal point, creating more of an inviting appearance.
